DESCRIPTION:The Small File Media Festival is back with their crazy third iteration\, this year both online and in person! \nThe festival is happening from August 9-14\, 2022\, at the SFU School for the Contemporary Arts in Vancouver\, BC\, on the unceded\ntraditional territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish\, and Tsleil-Watuth nations. \nThere are six days of screenings\, workshops and musical performances celebrating earth-cooling\, PUNK/CHIC small-file eco media. Time to  immerse in tiny movies on the huge screen! \nWhy small files? Because streaming media is overheating the planet. Networks\, data centers\, and devices contribute a whopping 4% of greenhouse gas emissions. About a third of that is the infrastructural share that supports streaming media. The whole category is busting out of control as people worldwide\, intoxicated by corporate media’s siren songs\, stream all kinds of media in high definition\, video chat\, video conference\, and play high-resolution online games\, not to mention invest in crypto and get hooked on artificial intelligence apps. \nFor more information\, visit the Small File Media Festival website here.

During this at-home time\, we’re offering online Reel Green’s Climate and Sustainable Production courses (formerly called Carbon Literacy). And the course remains free for anyone involved in film\, television and commercial production! \nThe Climate and Sustainable Production training course is a unique\, engaging and solutions-based training session offering attendees the information and inspiration to live and work in a more sustainable way. Upon successful completion of the day\, attendees will: \n\nhave a sound understanding of the science of climate change\nunderstand how to act to reduce their impact\nrecognize the impact that production has on the environment\nhave knowledge of the tools and techniques to lessen this impact\nTaking the Climate and Sustainable Production training course is free and recommended to everyone in the motion picture industry.\n\nWe’ve adapted the curriculum to accommodate a 3-hour training comprising climate science\, what it means for production\, and how to adopt more environmentally sustainable practices on-set.
