SUMMARY:Avery Sloane & Marry LIVE at Blue Light Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Blue Lights Sessions Presents: Avery Sloane & Marry! \nLIVE at Blue Light Sessions – 1839 Franklin Ave. \nFriday\, September 22nd\, 2023 \nDoors at 7PM\, Music at 8PM \nAvery Sloane first picked up a guitar at the age of seven\, and had written her first song by the end of the next year. Her debut E.P.\, “Future Pilot” (2021) was recorded almost solely in her bedroom. Featuring melancholy lyrics paired with energetic beats and distorted guitar\, it creates a listening environment that leaves you wondering what’s coming next. \n“June!”\, her 2022 single\, is the first song recorded in a studio space after meeting her full band: Jason Keen\, Knight O’Conner\, and Oliver Astren. A turning point in her sound\, this song pulls inspiration from garage rock\, creating an energetic (and danceable) feel. \nAvery Sloane won the Best in Vancouver contest in 2023\, and used the studio prize to record her most recent single\, “Gilbert”. Guitar riffs blend with a dreamy ambiance to create a rolling ballad that will stick in your head for a while. \nSince then\, Avery Sloane has been featured on tracks from Infidelity and Olliepop. Her next feature E.P. Is set to release by the end of 2023. \nMarry \nFronted by two black and white Fender guitars\, who could easily wear each others clothes\, emerges the angst of the kids who sleep all day\, don’t care to find a job and just want to play. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Launch for Nightwood Edition's Bramah’s Quest by Renée Sarojini Saklikar
DESCRIPTION:Join Renée Sarojini Saklikar as she launches Nightwood Edition’s Bramah’s Quest – the second instalment of THOT J BAP\, an epic fantasy in verse. \nIn Nightwood Edition’s Bramah’s Quest by Renée Sarojini Saklikar\, the year is 2087 and Bramah is back on a planet Earth ravaged by climate change and global inequality. Bramah is on a quest to find her people\, including the little boy Raphael\, last seen at the end of Bramah and the Beggar Boy (2021). Hailed as “brilliant and masterful\, timely” (Kerry Gilbert)\, this long poem reclaims poetry forms such as blank verse\, the sonnet\, the ballad and the madrigal. Each page is a portal\, connecting readers to the resistance of seed savers\, craftspeople\, scientists and orphans\, all banded together to help save their world from eco-catastrophe and injustice. \nTen years in the making\, Bramah’s Quest weaves poetry with politics to create an epic family saga that is also a meditation on good and evil and a “real page turner” (Meredith Quartermain). Bramah\, “brown\, brave and beautiful\,” is determined to conquer the odds and deal with what fate and chance throw in her path. Each twist and turn tests her ability to live up to the motto “Let all evil die and the good endure.” \nCelebrate the launch of this ambitious project with Renée Sarojini Saklikar and friends. Readings\, refreshments and book sales by Iron Dog Books. \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, August 30\, 2023 7:00 PM PDT\nLocation: The Lido\, 518 East Broadway Ave\, Vancouver\, BC \nRegister here.
