SUMMARY:Reel Green™ Presents: The Magnitude of All Things – Free Screening and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:“Climate change is not happening in the distant future; it is kicking down the front door\, flooding homes\, poisoning water and destroying communities. The connection between humanity and the environment is stated plainly by Australia’s Wonnarua Traditional Custodians: “If this land hurts\, we hurt.” Like ash from a distant fire\, grief on this scale touches everything. But coming to terms with the brutal reality of climate breakdown requires more than empty words and gestures. When hope is lost\, the real work begins.” – The Magnitude of All Things \nJoin Reel Green™ at Science World for a free screening of this award-winning documentary\, followed by a special Q&A with the director of the film\, Jennifer Abbott. \nDate: Thursday\, November 9\, 2023 \nTime: Doors open at 5:30pm\, screening starts at 6:00pm \nLocation: Science World – Science Theatre | 1455 Quebec St\, Vancouver\, BC V6A 3Z7 \nPresented in partnership with: Reel Green™ and Science World \nThank you to our sponsors: Canadian Media Producers Association and Directors Guild of Canada \nTickets are now available here! \nAbout the Film \nThe Magnitude of All Things (2020) (86 min) \nIn Jennifer Abbott’s cinematic journey\, the Sundance award-winning Director (The Corporation) draws intimate parallels between the experiences of grief—both personal and planetary. Stories from the frontlines of climate change merge with recollections from the filmmaker’s childhood on Ontario’s Georgian Bay. What do these stories have in common? The answer\, surprisingly\, is everything. The film takes us around the world to witness a planet in crisis: from Australia’s catastrophic fires and dying Great Barrier Reef\, to the island nation of Kiribati\, drowned by rising sea levels. In Nunatsiavut\, melting ice permanently alters the landscape\, while in the Amazon rainforest\, Indigenous people fight a desperate battle against oil and mining extraction. \nWatch the trailer below:

SUMMARY:EMV: STARS OF THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE
DESCRIPTION:Artists: Profeti della Quinta\, directed by Elam Rotem \nAt the dawn of the 17th century\, two composers employed by the House of Gonzaga in Mantua signaled the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era: Salomone Rossi (ca. 1570-ca. 1630) and Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). Both progressed with time and musical taste\, and pioneered the “new” musical style with basso continuo. Moreover\, they must have known each other personally and made music together: Rossi\, who was Jewish\, played at court where Monteverdi was the “Maestro della musica”\, and the two collaborated in composing an Intermedio for the Gonzagas. Rossi’s sister\, known as “Madama Europa”\, was a singer who performed in Monteverdi’s opera L’Arianna and probably in other works of his as well. \nThis concert is generously sponsored by Birgit Westergaard & Norman Gladstone \nThere will be a post-concert talk and Q & A with Elam Rotem hosted by Suzie LeBlanc\, C.M. \nLEARN MORE
