SUMMARY:Elevate Music Project: Semi-Finals (Vancouver)
DESCRIPTION:ELEVATE Music Project is an initiative created by The MRG Group to help reignite Vancouver’s live music scene and support local emerging artists. The goal of ELEVATE Vancouver is to showcase musicians of all genres and give them a platform to develop and advance their careers. SUMMARY:Freedom to Read Week 2024
DESCRIPTION:Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom. As of 2024\, Freedom to Read Week entered a new phase led by Library and Archives Canada\, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council\, and the Ontario Library Association in partnership with the Book and Periodical Council. \nDespite having strong traditions of free expression and free inquiry\, Canada also has a long-standing tradition of censorship. Historically\, books and magazines have often been quietly removed from libraries and classrooms. Freedom to Read Week was founded in 1984 to challenge the covert nature of censorship\, creating a broader awareness of these ongoing challenges to Canadian writing. It also encourages Canadians to actively defend their right to publish\, read and write freely and to widen their understanding of the negative effects of censorship\, not just on readers but on writers and publishers as well. \nOver the years\, Freedom to Read Week has become a regular feature of the annual programming of schools\, libraries and literary groups across Canada. From student video contests to large public readings of challenged materials\, participants have found creative and inspiring ways to show how important freedom of expression is to them. \nHow You Can Celebrate\nFreedom to Read Week provides an opportunity for Canadians to focus on issues of intellectual freedom as they affect your community\, your province or territory\, our country\, and countries around the world. Whether you are a librarian\, bookseller\, educator\, student\, or member of the community\, there are lots of ways you can help mark this annual event. \n\nShow your support by ordering our annual Freedom to Read poster. See 35+ years of posters in our poster gallery.\nView the online calendar of Freedom to Read Week events to find out what’s happening in your community.\nShow your support for Freedom to Read. Share our images on social media or post a banner on your website and link to Freedom to Read!\nGet involved! Get active on social media\, organize a (socially distanced) community event\, create a DIY display\, and more.

SUMMARY:bloom effect\, Revolution Above Disorder\, Jody Glenham\, FLØVER + Pure Phase
DESCRIPTION:On March 23\, 2024\, Trembling Records has organized musical performances at The Wise in Vancouver. Artists will include: \n\nbloom effect \nIntrospective\, fuzz-washed\, and melancholic sounds through swirling reverb and delay. Joining the dots between shoegaze\, dream-pop\, and post-punk. \nRevolution Above Disorder \nRevolution Above Disorder is the Vancouver-based project led by Irish artist Stephen Nicholas White. The music of Revolution Above Disorder is a melting pot of shoegaze\, neopsych and electronic-tinged post-punk. Droned-out while also melodic and sincere\, White’s songs are augmented by synths\, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with hypnotic reverb-soaked vocals. \nJody Glenham \nEthereal songwriter Jody Glenham is a whole ass mood — so much so that her latest album is called Mood Rock. Her songs are gentle but immediate\, drifting along with muted drums and hazy guitars and synth. Her alluring vocals are always front and centre\, pulling you into a dream-like world you won’t want to leave. \nFLØVER \n“The soundtrack of Tony Hawk Pro Skater Game set in the World of Darkness.” Alternative Rock\, Shoegaze\, and Post-Punk\, from West Vancouver\, BC. A label that personifies itself as a band. \nPure Phase (DJ) \nDJ Jordan Eshpeter (Pure Phase Night) combines the dreamy with the analog by spinning all-vinyl sets of shoegaze\, Britpop\, and neo-psychedelic selections. \n  \nLEARN MORE
