In Canada\, our First Nations partners – as the original stewards of the land – are the ultimate guides to these symbiotic working relationships. What can we learn from our peers and partners about respectful and culturally sensitive practices when it comes to all aspects of our environmental\, social and economic sustainability in location production? \n  \nVancity Theater Forum\nPanel 1: Engaging with our First Nations Partners \nModerator: Mike Fantasia (Top Gun\, Maverick\, Killers of the Flower Moon). \nPanelists: Alison Taylor\, Jason Nolan\, Johanna Sparrow-Crawford\, Joanelle Romero. \nPanel 2: De-carbonizing the Set \nModerator: Geoff Teoli (Vancouver Film Commissioner). \nPanelists: Ryan Schaetzel\, Gemma Martini\, Lisa Scope\, Colin McDougal\, Mary Jo Beirnes\, Eric Cerretani. \nPanel 3: Virtual-Production and Locations \nModerator: Zach Lipovsky (Director: Freaks\, Kimpossible) \nPanelists: John Rakich\, Matt Middleton\, Gladys Tong. \n  \nGreen Vendor Showcase\, presented by Reel Green™\nEnvironmental sustainability in production depends on a robust community of vendors who provide cost effective green alternatives for commonly used industry materials and services. The Green Vendor fair will feature local businesses to showcase their eco services and products\, all while sharing opportunities for collaboration towards a collective goal: sustainability. A few Green Vendors in attendance include: On Stage Cleaning\, The Earth Group\, Hertz\, Driving Force\, Keep it Green Recycling\, and The Reusables. \n  \nVancouver Art Gallery Award Reception\nOn the evening of September 17th\, Forum participants\, panelists and special guests will be welcomed to a celebratory networking reception at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the spirit of Leadership on Location. Together\, leadership peers and partners will have to opportunity to process the content of the day\, and celebrate the achievements of those leading the way for sustainability and stewardship in location production. \nRecognition: Following a tradition of Peer + Partner recognition\, the Motion Picture Community Initiative (MPCI) Awards are formally established this year to honour excellence in Leadership on Location. Peers + Partners alike\, these awards will pay tribute to those making a difference in BC communities as they carry out\, or contribute to\, the complex business of location production.

SUMMARY:Road Trip' Music Series to Bring Live Music Experiences to the Okanagan's Route 97
DESCRIPTION:(Okanagan\, B.C.) Get ready to see and experience some of Canada’s top touring artists coming straight from the summer’s festival stages. Route97 Cultural Development Society has announced its latest ‘Road Trip’ music series that is set to take place at a range of Okanagan venues.   \n Designed to foster Canadian talent while promoting the B.C. Interior ‘Route 97 Highway’ from Penticton to Salmon Arm as a viable touring corridor\, the Route97 Culture Road Trip Series will see several Canadian artists perform at regional venues. Venues include Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong\, Covert Farms Family Estate in Oliver\, the Cleland Community Theatre in Penticton and Okanagan College’s South Okanagan-Similkameen campus in Penticton.   \n\n\nBeginning on August 17 and running through to December 16\, 2022\, the series will feature a mix of emerging and nationally recognized artists such as:   \n·        Buzz-worthy Vancouver rage-funk band Raincity (August 17\, 2022\, at Caravan Farm Theatre and September 12\, 2022\, at Covert Farms Family Estate)   \n·        Festival favourite Vancouver Indigifunk band Curtis Clearsky and the Constellationz (September 5\, 2022\, at Covert Farms Family Estate and September 10\, 2022\, at Caravan Farm Theatre)   \n·        CBC darling and JUNO-Award nominee Begonia (November 21\, 2022\, at the Cleland Community Theatre)   \n·        JUNO Award-winning Winnipeg folk and country singer-songwriter William Prince (December 2\, 2022\, at the Cleland Community Theatre)   \n·        Vernon pop/rock artist Andrew Allen (holiday show – Dec 16\, 2022\, at the Cleland Community Theatre)   \n·        Further dates will be revealed in October. Visit route97culture.com and sign up for the mailing list to stay in the loop on new shows and receive early notifications of concert experiences\, offers\, deals and more!  \n\n\n\nAt each venue\, guests will be treated to a unique experience specifically curated for the road trip series\, so no two gigs will be the same. In addition\, organizers are committed to keeping ticket prices affordable to ensure the shows are as accessible as possible.     \n\n\nMark Greenhalgh of Penticton’s Misty Mountain Productions is one of the co-creators behind the Route97 Culture Road Trip Series\, and he is excited about the blend of creative talent\, fun experiences and Okanagan venues that are going to be a part of the Route97 Culture Road Trip Series:   \n\n\n“The idea of this initiative is to further enhance the amazing curation of experiences our partnering venues and locations have already been building. It’s a natural and additional pairing to introduce some of Canada’s best music artists along with a healthy inclusion of many of our best B.C. emerging talent at these fantastic venues.   \nThe team at Route97 Culture is very excited to be presenting these experiential concerts with the much-valued assistance from Creative BC and\, in the case of the Cleland Theatre\, The City of Penticton. Through a lengthy and detailed engagement process last year with venues\, stakeholders and presenters all around the regions of the Thompson\, Okanagan and Shuswap\, we found an extremely healthy appetite to further our regional cultural tourism offerings in a very collaborative way that especially highlights both music artists and the regional venues.    \n\n\n\nMusic brings people together\, and you’ll find that many of these artists are proponents of cultural change\, positivity and unity. We are very excited and grateful to launch The Route97 Culture Road Trip Series now and equally excited for the future plans already in the works.”   \n Additional acts and venues are set to be announced over the weeks ahead. The Route97 Cultural Development Society expects to see the series continue to grow heading into 2023 as they have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 19 B.C. Interior venues. The organization is committed to strongly supporting artists from diverse backgrounds\, including women\, Indigenous artists\, those in the 2SLGTBQIA+ community and under-represented BIPOC groups.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEstelle Shook\, Artistic Director of the Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong\, believes the Route97 Culture Road Trip Series will be beneficial to the area: \n \n“This live music series promotes diversity and increases the musical options available to our \ncommunity. Mark\, Mandy and the project team are the perfect fit to energize this area and have the knowledge and connections to bring through both nationally renowned and emerging artists.”  \n\n\nWhile B.C.’s Highway 97 is the longest continuously numbered route in the province\, covering over 2\,000 kilometers\, the team behind the ‘Road Trip’ music series is focused on the B.C. interior for now\, with the goal of bringing both nationally known acts and B.C. developing artists to underserved audiences\, helping to build the region’s touring infrastructure in the process.    \n\n\nMandy Wheelwright from Blister Management\, a full-time career artist manager with artists Frazey Ford\, Kinnie Starr\, Steph Cameron and The Be Good Tanyas on her roster\, is the other co-creator of the project\, and she hopes folks up and down the valley will get involved\, enjoy a road trip and help support the series:  \n\n\n“Our project team is taking an innovative approach to remedy the twofold problem of lack of both promoters and venues in the B.C. Interior which restricts market access for Canada’s touring artists and limits choice for live music consumers. The Route97 Culture team is excited to work with incredible regional venues and partners in order to bring our nationally acclaimed and B.C. live music performers to help improve the regional live music infrastructure and provide local audiences with artists that they don’t have to travel to the major urban cities to experience. We are proud to be bringing extraordinary artists to our stunning venue locations of the BC interior.”   \n\n\nTickets for August 17 and September 10’s shows at Armstrong’s Caravan Farm Theatre are on sale now. Additional announcements and ticket sales will be revealed over the coming weeks and months\, so sign up for the Route97 mailing list or follow along on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the know. SUMMARY:Car Free Days of Summer
DESCRIPTION:Since 2008\, Car Free Vancouver Society has hosted Car Free Days along Commercial Drive\, Main Street\, and the West End to nurture and grow the car free culture. By blocking off major thoroughfares\, Car Free Days gave people the chance to experience what cities could be like with more space for pedestrians\, not cars.\n\n\nIn 2020\, the pandemic forced Car Free Days to pivot to an online format\, where we held virtual concerts\, scavenger hunts\, and audio tours. In 2021\, we safely engaged with our supporters and partners to foster the community that is so important to us by holding a month-long festival that included a series of small events. \nWe couldn’t be more excited to announce the 2022 Car Free Days dates will include: \n\nCommercial Drive: Saturday\, September 10th (noon – 7pm)\nMain Street: Sunday\, September 18th (noon – 7pm)\nWest End: Sunday\, September 25th (noon – 7pm)\n\nThis year the ‘car free’ vision will continue to work with partners that have supported us in previous years\, provide more accessibility\, and foster relationships within our community. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Vancouver TAIWANfest Way forward: Creative Export and Exchange?
DESCRIPTION:Way forward: Creative Export and Exchange? What have we learned from the pandemic? \nWith the borders reopening\, the world will intertwine once again. These past few years have challenged many things\, including physical mobility\, how we relate to each other and the urgent call for equitable and just relations\, the ever-evolving concept of sustainability\, the introduction or resurfacing of Indigenous wisdom\, how cultures are understood or relearned\, and how borders of nations and people are being redrawn and redefined. Have we adopted a transformational framework\, or are we still in a transactional mindset? Are we truly decolonized\, or are we still living in the colonial shell when allocating resources for the creative sector? \nFor nations with diverse cultures\, these questions become much more complex. While Canada\, Taiwan\, Australia and the US perhaps share the same progressive values\, the practical realities could differ like night and day. This forum brings together four leaders in the creative sector representing different corners of the Pacific: from Taiwan\, the former Chair of the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan\, Ting Hsiao-ching; from Canada\, the CEO of Creative BC\, Prem Gill; from Australia\, International Development Consultant for the Australia Arts Council\, Norman Armour; from Canada\, Chair of the Board of CAPACOA and director of Vancouver Civic Theatre\, Natalie Lue. The four will share their perspectives and experiences in non-profit arts and creative industries\, particularly on their work in the sector as it relates to lessons learned during COVID and cultivating soft power through the diversity of the countries and communities they represent. To help facilitate the discussion is Mr. Jeff Nankivell\, President and CEO of Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. \nFor those connected to the sector—both individual creative organizations and those connected to governments with the knowledge and resources to support them—this forum aims to reveal opportunities and challenges presented in a world we increasingly share. \nRegister here \n  \n
