SUMMARY:Mosaic Arts & Culture Festival 2022
DESCRIPTION:Mosaic Arts & Culture Festival is produced by Ptarmigan Arts\, a Pender Island based arts organization that provides workshops\, classes and events in music\, dance\, theatre\, visual arts\, and filmmaking\, as well as a Community Gallery representing many of Pender’s local artists. The festival is a culmination of Ptarmigan’s mandate\, and a celebration of the land and community we are a part of.\nThe Mosaic Arts & Culture Festival had its first year back in 2019 after a nine year hiatus and was postponed in 2020 in light of the pandemic. In 2021 we enjoyed building on what we started with performances from Jill Barber\, Blue Moon Marquee\, The Kerplunks\, Peach & Quiet\, Tim Johnson\, emerging youth performers\, and lots of arts and nature-based activities for the whole family.\nThe Mosaic Festival took off where Hope Bay Boat Days left off. Hope Bay Boat Days began in 2012 as a celebration of wooden boats\, art\, music and community and ran for five years with its last year in 2017. We are grateful to carry the torch and continue the tradition of having an annual community festival at Hope Bay.\nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Man Up Pride: Parade of Pansies!
DESCRIPTION:Drag show and live music event\, part of Up & Up Fest and Eastside Studios Pride Week 2022! \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nThis event is being held on the stolen\, ancestral territories of the Musqueam\, Skxwú7mesh-ulh\, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. As we live and organize queer space as settlers on these lands\, we have an obligation to continuously work to repair harms perpetrated upon Indigenous communities\, presently and historically. Settler colonialism has brought (and continues to bring) untold violence to these lands\, via unlawful resource extraction\, racism in medical and foster care systems\, and the intergenerational trauma of residential schools. One way we will strive to give back to and support these communities is by donating a portion of proceeds from this event to Healing in Colour\, a resource platform for BIPOC and directory of BIPOC therapists with anti-oppression values. \n__________________________________ \nMan Up Pride: Parade of Pansies! \npart of Up & Up Fest and Eastside Studios Pride Week 2022! \nWELCOME BACK to the balmy patio paradise that is MOD Brewing’s private parking lot~ the same glorious hidden East Van gem where we celebrated Pride last year! \nThis year we’re bringing you MORE drag\, MORE queer live music\, MORE deejays and dance party\, MORE PRIDE and MORE JOY!!! \nThrilled to be opening doors at 5:00pm for a sunny late afternoon cocktail hour with live music and food trucks\, into an early drag show at sundown\, and a moonlit dance party to finish! \nDrag performances by~ \nPONYBOY \nROSE BUTCH & HOTMALE \nHOUSE OF BUKURU \nHOUSE OF RICE \nVIXEN VON FLEX \nCONTINENTAL BREAKFAST \nTODDY \nPM \nKING FISHER \nRUBY SLICKEUR (Yukon) \nDANK SINATRA (Toronto) \nLive music with Hyaenas and Jandrou! \n\n\n  \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:23rd Annual Shambhala Music Festival 2022
DESCRIPTION:The 23rd Annual Shambhala Music Festival will take place July 22-25\, 2022. \nShambhala Music Festival was born from a vision as grassroots as it gets. On a sunny Labour Day weekend back in 1998\, some 500 people gathered at the Salmo River Ranch for a party that showcased local art and music. From those early\, heady days\, Shambhala grew with enthusiasm by word of mouth\, quickly becoming a staple event for the West Coast underground electronic music scene. Today it attracts world renowned DJs and artists and some of the most eclectic\, energetic fans in the universe. The festival is fueled by Shambhalove which shines bright to this day. Shambhala Music Festival is cutting edge in its production and does not accept any corporate sponsorship. This allows the festival to retain a true reflection of the people on the dance floor and their vision of what their community looks like. This mission is important to hold down as electronic dance music culture has moved into the mainstream where opportunistic corporations have threatened to water it down. In this respect\, this festival’s community is like no other. You will not see one advertisement or corporate logo on the farm. \nBy 2010\, 15\,000 guests\, artists and crew were coming to dance and be free in the wilds of interior British Columbia. Today\, people come to enjoy the festival’s focus of providing amazing art\, music and life changing experiences. \nShambhala Music Festival is an annual event not to be missed\, boasting six uniquely themed stages\, each managed by their own Stage Director. All Stage Directors will book their talent\, dream up the stage’s vibe and deliver unforgettable experiences year after year. The festival features the best in electronic and live music from around the globe and our very talented backyard. Ultimately\, Shambhala Music Festival is a celebration of music\, art and life\, steeped in one of the most beautiful festival venues in the world. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Vancouver Folk Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a Canadian cultural institution. It is a unique community-based celebration internationally renowned for presenting the finest traditional and contemporary folk and roots music from around the world. Now in its 45th year\, the Festival continues to be one of the city’s most beloved\, enjoyed\, and respected events. Through the years\, the Festival has won “Best Local Music Festival” by readers of the Georgia Straight and the Westender. Each year\, the Festival draws more than 40\,000 enthusiastic attendees to beautiful Jericho Beach Park. Two and even three generations of families join friends and fellow community members to experience the music and culture of more than 40 international\, national\, and local acts. They come together to dance and to enjoy food and children’s activities – and the magical ambience of the Festival. \nThe Festival was founded in 1978 and held in Stanley Park. It relocated to Jericho Beach Park in its second year. Following initial sponsorship from the city\, the Festival came under the control of the newly established non-profit Vancouver Folk Music Festival Society in late 1979. In the Festival’s early years\, it established and ran its own record label and distribution company\, Festival Records. \nOver the years\, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival has played a key role in the development of artists and audiences on a regional\, national\, and international level. The society continues to honour the same traditions with an emphasis on emerging and diverse artists. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:DigiCamp: Summer 2022 Online Video Game Development Camp for Girls
DESCRIPTION:Have a daughter\, niece or sister who’s curious about coding? As part of DigiBC’s ongoing commitment to education for youth\, they have partnered with UTG Academy and IUGO Mobile Entertainment again to create an online video game development camp for girls that will be held over the summer. This incredible opportunity is open to 8-13 year olds and no previous coding experience is necessary. \nThe program is student-directed and project-based where campers will get to create an HTML5 game using PixelPAD and Python. UTG Instructors will tune the curriculum to ensure students are given the opportunity to write code\, change gameplay\, design levels\, update sprites\, re-skin their game\, and create an app that is uniquely their own. This subsidized program will also feature guest speakers who will share their experiences\, tips\, and secrets from working in the video game industry. \nDigiBC’s DigiCamp was created to give youth in the province who have not had the opportunity\, the chance to learn skills\, build confidence and broaden interest in careers within the creative technology sector. The camps we ran last summer were quite a success\, and you can read the full recap report on how those went here. \nWhat if a student has already taken one of the camps that was held over spring break or last summer? Students who have previously taken this camp have the option to do a more advanced stream within any of these summer sessions as the class will be split up into different groups based on skill level. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Coastal Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:The story of Coastal Jazz and Blues Society is the story of determination\, passion\, idealism\, community\, and of course\, music. Founded in 1985\, we incorporated in 1986 as a community-based\, not-for-profit\, charitable arts organization located in Vancouver\, British Columbia. From the very beginning\, the society has worked diligently to establish Vancouver as a centre for the creation and exchange of sounds and ideas between the local\, national\, and international music communities. \nOur mission is to not only increase the appreciation of the music\, but to strengthen the arts community by developing special projects\, artistic exchanges\, partnerships\, educational initiatives\, community programs\, and collaborations that further the art form. Our vision encompasses a wide spectrum of jazz\, blues\, world\, creative\, and improvised music\, including evolving forms of jazz and the technologies and media that influence jazz as an art form. \nToday\, the Society ranks as BC’s largest not-for-profit music presenter producing the annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, Bright Moments series of concerts\, the annual Winter Jazz festival on Granville Island\, as well as presenting local\, national\, and international artists throughout the year. Along with music presentation\, the society also has a long-standing commitment to music education\, presenting the Cypher: Write\, Record\, Perform program exclusively for young musicians\, the Sounds of Youth performance stage\, regular workshops by local visiting international artists including the monthly Cool School: Get Hip to Jazz series\, children’s music programs\, and more. \nThe Society is also a significant part of Vancouver and BC’s economic engine and tourism industry\, attracting over half a million people to the annual jazz festival and generating over $43 million in economic activity. \nLEARN MORE
