SUMMARY:Vancouver Folk Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a Canadian cultural institution. It is a unique community-based celebration internationally renowned for presenting the finest traditional and contemporary folk and roots music from around the world. Now in its 45th year\, the Festival continues to be one of the city’s most beloved\, enjoyed\, and respected events. Through the years\, the Festival has won “Best Local Music Festival” by readers of the Georgia Straight and the Westender. Each year\, the Festival draws more than 40\,000 enthusiastic attendees to beautiful Jericho Beach Park. Two and even three generations of families join friends and fellow community members to experience the music and culture of more than 40 international\, national\, and local acts. They come together to dance and to enjoy food and children’s activities – and the magical ambience of the Festival. \nThe Festival was founded in 1978 and held in Stanley Park. It relocated to Jericho Beach Park in its second year. Following initial sponsorship from the city\, the Festival came under the control of the newly established non-profit Vancouver Folk Music Festival Society in late 1979. In the Festival’s early years\, it established and ran its own record label and distribution company\, Festival Records. \nOver the years\, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival has played a key role in the development of artists and audiences on a regional\, national\, and international level. The society continues to honour the same traditions with an emphasis on emerging and diverse artists. \nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:Peace Valley Folk Fest
DESCRIPTION:The second annual Peace Valley Folk Fest is taking place July 15-16\, 2022.\n\n\nThis Festival is the result of two dreamers aiming to see their community enriched by the power music has to surpass all differences and bring people together. \nMuch like music\, art has an important place in our lives and community. Combining both art and music together\, the festival intertwines many creative styles as one. \n With the idea “enrich lives with all forms of art\, and be open to the many interpretations unknown to you” there is no clear definition of what PVFF is or will be. SUMMARY:DigiCamp: Summer 2022 Online Video Game Development Camp for Girls
DESCRIPTION:Have a daughter\, niece or sister who’s curious about coding? As part of DigiBC’s ongoing commitment to education for youth\, they have partnered with UTG Academy and IUGO Mobile Entertainment again to create an online video game development camp for girls that will be held over the summer. This incredible opportunity is open to 8-13 year olds and no previous coding experience is necessary. \nThe program is student-directed and project-based where campers will get to create an HTML5 game using PixelPAD and Python. UTG Instructors will tune the curriculum to ensure students are given the opportunity to write code\, change gameplay\, design levels\, update sprites\, re-skin their game\, and create an app that is uniquely their own. This subsidized program will also feature guest speakers who will share their experiences\, tips\, and secrets from working in the video game industry. \nDigiBC’s DigiCamp was created to give youth in the province who have not had the opportunity\, the chance to learn skills\, build confidence and broaden interest in careers within the creative technology sector. The camps we ran last summer were quite a success\, and you can read the full recap report on how those went here. \nWhat if a student has already taken one of the camps that was held over spring break or last summer? Students who have previously taken this camp have the option to do a more advanced stream within any of these summer sessions as the class will be split up into different groups based on skill level. \nLEARN MORE

Founded in 1985\, we incorporated in 1986 as a community-based\, not-for-profit\, charitable arts organization located in Vancouver\, British Columbia. Our vision encompasses a wide spectrum of jazz\, blues\, world\, creative\, and improvised music\, including evolving forms of jazz and the technologies and media that influence jazz as an art form. \nToday\, the Society ranks as BC’s largest not-for-profit music presenter producing the annual TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival\, Bright Moments series of concerts\, the annual Winter Jazz festival on Granville Island\, as well as presenting local\, national\, and international artists throughout the year. Along with music presentation\, the society also has a long-standing commitment to music education\, presenting the Cypher: Write\, Record\, Perform program exclusively for young musicians\, the Sounds of Youth performance stage\, regular workshops by local visiting international artists including the monthly Cool School: Get Hip to Jazz series\, children’s music programs\, and more. \nThe Society is also a significant part of Vancouver and BC’s economic engine and tourism industry\, attracting over half a million people to the annual jazz festival and generating over $43 million in economic activity. \nLEARN MORE
