DESCRIPTION:Bringing editors from across Canada together to discuss the current landscape of magazine editing.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThe Magazine Association of BC presents a summit for magazine editors. Editors from publications across Canada will come together to talk about organizational change and growth\, the importance of cultural intelligence\, being a magazine editor during the pandemic\, and other editorial-related topics. \nWe will kick off the event with a keynote speech\, followed by panel discussions with emerging\, established\, and veteran magazine editors in BC and Canada. \nSchedule\n10-11 am PST: Practising Embodied Allyship – keynote by Catherine Hernandez\nBased on her novel Crosshairs\, author and screenwriter Catherine Hernandez will lead a series of exercises designed to help audience members move from passive performative allyship to true embodied action. \n11 am – 12 pm PST: Navigating Change in the Age of Burnout – with Jessica Johns\, Matea Kuli?\, and Lue Palmer. Moderated by AnnMarie MacKinnon\nThe panelists will discuss the reality of burnout as publications feel the need to to take on a lot in a shifting magazine industry. \n12-1 pm PST: Cultural Intelligence: The Connectivity Tool for Meaningful EDI – with Shannon Carranco\, Ziya Jones\, and Kevin Taghabon. DESCRIPTION:Customized training and mentorship for Indigenous storytellers to produce a broadcast-ready film for APTN* through the 10th edition of NSI IndigiDocs \nFour Indigenous filmmakers will be selected by an independent jury to participate in this intensive\, online training program to develop a short documentary idea into a 10-minute finished film. \nAs an emerging to mid-career filmmaker\, you will lead the project as both writer and director. Training and personalized mentorship are provided. \nDuring phase 1 you will engage in online training sessions\, complete assignments to evolve your documentary idea\, prepare for production and attend the 2022 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival online. \nIn phase 2\, you’ll begin the production part of your documentary journey. You’ll be provided with a budget and professional guidance as your vision unfolds. DESCRIPTION:Pre-arranged\, one-on-one online meetings with distributors and sales agents for finished\, nearly finished and rough-cut films. \nSubmissions are now open. You must be registered with a Hot Docs Industry ONLINE Pass to submit. \nHow It Works \nAll applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will have the opportunity to request meetings with participating decision makers. \nAfter producers have submitted their meeting requests\, project information will be forwarded to the requested decision makers\, who will review and accept or decline each request in accordance with their respective acquisitions mandates. \nDuring Hot Docs Festival\, participants will then have 20-minute meetings with the decision makers who agreed to meet with them. \nMeetings are arranged subject to the discretion of decision makers and are not guaranteed.  \nELIGIBILITY \nProjects must be in a rough-cut or complete stage. \nProjects that have an international appeal and would suit theatrical\, broadcast or educational audiences are encouraged to apply. \nYou can submit up to TWO projects.
