The Reel Green™ Clean Energy Committee’s Power Tie-ins Program grant envelope has been increased to $10,000 to support grid tie-in projects in high volume filming areas.  The purpose of the program is to increase access to electric power for film crews to reduce carbon emissions produced by the use of diesel fuelled generators.

For each day a film crew replaces a diesel generator with a power tie-in to a clean electric energy source, productions will save approximately 350 litres of diesel fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 938.35 kg CO2e/Day.

Grants will be provided to eligible electric grid tie-in projects that service the motion picture industry in British Columbia.  Eligible projects include new electric kiosk builds and installations, and upgrades to existing clean energy infrastructure.  The Committee will work closely with applicants and stakeholders to ensure the success of the project and the program’s goals.

The program is available to the following applicants:

The Committee encourages new applications after the success seen by the recent round of successful applicants from last fiscal year including Britannia Mine Museum’s tie-in project which came online in March 2024 and was used by HBO’s “The Last of Us” and Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. The most recent activation, launched in December 2024, is the City of Maple Ridge’s Rail Lot, featuring an 800 A electric kiosk—powerful enough to run two circuses simultaneously. Another tie-in coming online in March 2025 is the Steveston Harbour Authority Chatham Street Lot.

Application Deadline: April 1, 2025
