Reel Green™ Power Budget Calculator

Use this tool to estimate total power requirements for on-location filming. This tool helps film departments understand their total power needs.

It also recommends Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that help productions reduce their reliance on diesel generators and reduce the money spent on fossil fuels.

Users can upload .csv files to populate data on a per location or per filming day basis.

To export your results click “Download CSV” button above the pie chart at the bottom.

How to Use the Power Budget Calculator

1. Review Departments
   
   Each major department (Lighting/Grip, Camera, Catering, etc.) is listed. Populate the type of equipment used in each department.
   
   
2. Edit Equipment & Power Loads
   
   Change the equipment name, quantity, and wattage as needed. The calculator automatically updates total watts and energy (kWh).
   
   
3. Add or Remove Line Items
   
   Click the + button in a department to add additional gear.
   Use the X button to remove rows if not needed.
   
   
4. View Subtotals & Totals
   
   Each department shows a subtotal of its estimated draw.
   At the bottom, the grand total (watts and kWh) displays the overall power requirement.
   
   
5. Explore Battery Storage Options
   
   Click on the green battery icon to display options to meet power needs.
   Totals can be refreshed by clicking the green battery icon to see different scenarios.
