Clean Energy

What do we mean by ‘Clean Energy’?

When we talk about clean energy in film production, we mean powering sets, stages, and locations with grid power and batteries instead of diesel generators.

This approach cuts emissions, noise, and fuel costs while making it easier to shoot in sensitive or hard-to-reach locations, including residential neighbourhoods and environmentally protected areas.

Learn more: Clean Energy Overview

Did you know batteries make it easier to film in sensitive areas? Silent, mobile, and zero-emission, batteries let crews shoot in places that were once off-limits: locations too noisy, too remote from the grid, or too contentious for residential neighbourhoods and protected environmental areas.

Power Tie-Ins Funding Program

The Power Tie-Ins Program was a grant program delivered by Creative BC for Reel Green™’s Clean Energy Committee.

The Committee invested up to $10,000 in electric grid tie-in projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in high-volume filming areas. The tie-in projects will enable film crews to tie in to electric power grids, thereby reducing the use of diesel-fueled generators on film sets.

Please contact our team if you would like more information or have a proposal for an exciting location that would benefit from electrification at reelgreen@creativebc.com.

Clean Energy Committee

Established in 2020, the Clean Energy Committee brings together industry leaders to guide the motion picture sector’s shift away from fossil fuels. The committee provides direction on clean energy initiatives across British Columbia, helping productions, studios, and suppliers cut emissions and reduce diesel use. Our goals:

  • Advance the transition to clean energy in film and television production
  • Reduce fossil fuel consumption on sets, stages, and locations
  • Strengthen B.C.’s position as the world’s greenest production centre
