On October 21, 2025, Lumostage unveiled a brand-new subway train film set – the first of its kind in both British Columbia and Canada. Productions looking to reduce set construction and permitting costs while also lowering their environmental footprint can now take advantage of a repurposed SkyTrain car available for filming at the virtual production studio in Langley Township.

This fully revamped train is housed within an LED volume, enabling filmmakers to simulate realistic subway motion using dynamic tunnel plates and immersive 3D station environments. It is a cost-effective, sustainable, and visually compelling solution for transit scenes without the logistical challenges of filming on location.

Created in partnership with TransLink, this is the first car of the decommissioned Mark I SkyTrain fleet to be saved from the scrapyard and given a new life. This project highlights how collaboration and the foundation of the circular economy, assists the motion picture industry to use its problem-solving abilities to move toward a more environmentally sustainable path. The transformation of the train car into a Canadian-first, cutting-edge film set is a logistics win for filmmakers. It allows productions to save time and money by eliminating temporary set construction costs, as well as removing the travel and scheduling constraints of filming at active train and subway locations.

As studios and productions continue to evaluate and reduce their environmental impact, this is a striking example of how reuse and innovation can prevent waste and create value. A piece of Vancouver’s transit history has been preserved and will continue to contribute to the local economy taking people on new journeys servicing the province’s screen industry.
