Reel Green™ is excited to announce the REEL Earth Day Challenge is back again in 2025. In partnership with the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation, the annual challenge begins April 8 and finishes on Earth Day, April 22.
The event encourages local film and TV crews to team up and raise money for the MVRP Foundation, a registered charity, to fund park projects and initiatives. Since 2021, the REEL Earth Day Challenge has raised $473,000 thanks to participating productions, and contributions from sponsors and other industry stakeholders.
In 2024 the REEL Earth Day Challenge raised $100,000 – the competition winner was Team Virgin River who raised an impressive $25,960. The funds from last year’s event made the following park projects possible:
- Indigenous public programming at East Area Regional Parks
- Pond creation at the Rowlatt Farmstead in Campbell Valley Regional Pa
- Floodgate and salmon research in ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park
- Reforestation maintenance at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park
- Indigenous-led summer camps at various Regional Parks
- Grand Fir Trail restoration at Pacific Spirit Regional Park
- Sedge field restoration at Aldergrove Regional Park
- Ecoblitz stewardship activities at 14 Regional Parks
REEL Earth Day remains a special opportunity for B.C. film productions, who frequently film in these regional parks, to give back to the natural space where they work, live, and play. Industry sponsors can also contribute to the top teams’ daily challenge totals, and the production that raises the most funds overall is recognized as the winner. Together these combined efforts represent the commitment of the motion picture industry to implement sustainable practices, benefit our local community and protect the environment.
